The joy of prayer

Teaching by Ernie Wagnor on Sunday, October 23

Why do I like my cell phone so much? Because it enables me to easily talk with the people I love the most. That’s what prayer is – the means by which we talk with God. Jesus taught us to pray,
“OUR FATHER who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever.”
 Matthew 6:9-13

It’s a joy to be able to talk with God, the One who loves us more than we can comprehend. (Psalm 16:11) In your presence there is fullness of joy.

Perhaps the reason we can think prayer is boring is because we so often spend all our time in prayer talking about ourselves. In Jesus’ model of prayer, He starts and finishes by gazing on the goodness of His Father. Lets ask the Holy Spirit to take us to new depths in prayer. Father You are worthy of our time and attention; thank you that you love having conversations with us. We ask for intimacy with you in our prayer lives.
