Teaching on Sunday, September 18th by Cory
Its common. But its not what we’re made for. God created us to be satisfied by truth, yet we often choose to feast on lies. Picture this: imagine carrying around a backpack full of bricks all day when you didn’t have to. This mirrors the shame we carry and are weighed down with when we believe lies such as being “worthless, ugly, stupid, rejected.”
What does the cross do?
The cross exchanges our weight for freedom and truth. Our circumstances or emotions might be screaming those lies at us, but we know where to run with them—the sufficient blood of Jesus. We have a choice to make: will I give power to this lie by believing it, or will I believe the Word of God and give authority to what my Creator says about me?
Your Creator constantly accepts you, constantly desires you, and always forgives you when you ask. This is the best gift ever: that by His grace we are saved (Eph 2:8-9)—there’s nothing we did to deserve salvation. And so it is with our Father’s acceptance; we may not deserve it (and lies may tell us we don’t have it), but (the truth is) Jesus never stops lavishing acceptance on us. We are un-circumstantially accepted by God. We can do nothing to earn it; all we must do is receive His perfect gift.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.
YOU ARE COMPLETE.
YOU ARE ROYALTY.
YOU ARE A NEW CREATION.
YOU ARE FREE
YOU ARE CLEAN
YOU ARE ACCEPTED.
Truth is whatever God says, regardless of what I might feel or think.
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32
